A Survey on the knowledge and Practice of Personal Hygiene of Primary School¢¥s Six Grade Students

Abstract
The purpose of this survey is to know the difference between the degree of knoweldge and practice of personal hygiene of primary school¢¥s sixth grade students.
This data (necessary for purpose) were obtained from the survey which was carried out on the knowledge and practice of personal hygiene of sixth grade students of primary schools which loacted in ubvan and rural from September 5, to 15. 1971.
The total students whcih responded the questionair are 630 pupils.
As the result, following conclusions were obtained.
1. Occupation of student¢¥s house holder consisted most frequently of commerce in urban area, 27.5%, agriculture in rural area, 70.3%.
2. Financial or living standard in the opinion of students were "less than ordinary" or "poor" with 14.0% of the students in urban area and 25.8% in the rural area.
3. Number of tooth cleaning per day:
The highest porpotion of th th cleaning was twice per day, 72.2% in the knowledge while in the practice once per day, 62.1%.
4. Hour of tooth cleaning per day:
In the knowledge of the highest propotion cleaning before meal was 50.2% and next propotion cleaning after meal was 32.1%.
5. Handwashing after stool:
In the knowledge, washing regulary was the highest propotion, 86.2%, in the practice, washing regulary was also first, 56.2% and never was 18.2%.
6. Handwashing before meal:
In the knowledge, washing regulary before meal was the highest propotion, 84.4%, but in the practice, washing regulary was 38.4% and never was 20.6%.
7. Frequencies of anthelmintics administration:
In the knowledge, twice per year was the most cases, 61.6% and in the practice, twice per year was also first, 71.1%.
8. Number of bath:
In the knowledge, once a week was the highest propotion, 79.9% but in the practice, once a month was the highest 45.9%.
9. Frequency of changing under-wear:
In the knowledge, once per 3-4 days was the first, 63.3%, while in the practice, once a week was the first respond, 56.1%.
10. Utilization of medical facilities:
The 84.6% of the students were utilized the hospital in the knowledge, while in the practice, 51.3% of the students were utilized the parmacy.
11. Medical examination:
In the knowledge, to take regulary medcial examination was the respond, 78.4% while in the practice, the highest propotion didn¢¥t take regulary mdical examin ation, 74.7%.
12. There is an association between knowledge and practice of personal hygiene. (p>0.05)
13. The reason why they don¢¥t practice though they have a good knowledge about personal hygiene:
The highest propotion they don¢¥t fall into a habit was 37.1% in rural and 54.7% in urban.
The second reason was that they have not health facility and economic foundation in urban and in rural.
14. Knowledge of the public nuisance:
In rural area, the percentage of they don¢¥t know the public nuisance was 50.0% and in urban area was 28.2%.
15. Source of information about publice nuisance:
In rural area, they know it from radio, 47.8% and in urban area, most of them, 35.7% knew it from their teachers.
